Nice to meet you!
Thanks for stopping by to find out more about me! My name is Femke and I’m a twenty-something Dutch biologist. Yep, I’m a scientist, not the first person you think of writing a travelblog! After my bachelor graduation I decided to take a gap year and travel the world. At that point in my life I had the feeling that I needed to escape reality for a while. The idea of an 8 till 5 job scared me more than traveling all by myself to the other side of the world. So that’s what I did.. I traveled all by myself to South east Asia and Australia.
Where it all began
My journey started with a group tour around Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos. After this impressive first month I followed my heart and started volunteering in Thailand at a safari and rescue center for animals. As a biologist it has always been a dream for me to work with wild animals. Feeding giraffes, walking with elephants and playing with tigers became a daily routine in my life. My journey continued to the Thai islands were I fell in love in with thousands of palm trees, limestone cliffs and white beaches. My adventure continued to Indonesia where I watched the sunrise at the bromo volcano and followed a yoga retreat in Bali.
My journey ended in Australia where I traveled for 3 months the entire east coast. After this 7 months I could say I was addicted. Addicted to new adventures, new places and exploring the wonders of nature. But most of all, I was addicted to the feeling that traveling gave me. It gave me a true feeling of happiness and de-stressing (even when I jumped out of an airplane!). But all good things come to an end and after this amazing adventure I returned to the Netherlands to study my master degree.
And that’s where my travelblog comes in. I created this travelblog to share my experiences and help other (solo) travelers to make the most out of their trip. As a biologist I have a broad knowledge and interest in nature. For me the highlights of my trip were always connected with nature and the beauty of planet earth: swimming with humpback whales, sleeping in the rainforest, playing with tigers, hiking volcanos and night diving with sharks. In this travelblog I will inspire you to travel this beautiful planet and give you the best travel tips to follow your wildest dreams!
